Word & Sacrament, Psalm 1, Matthew 26

Word & Sacrament, Psalm 1, Matthew 26

FIRST READING Psalm 1
1 Happy are those who do not follow the advice of the wicked or take the
path that sinners tread or sit in the seat of scoffers, 2 but their delight is in
the law of the Lord, and on his law they meditate day and night. 3 They
are like trees planted by streams of water, which yield their fruit in its
season, and their leaves do not wither. In all that they do, they prosper. 4
The wicked are not so but are like chaff that the wind drives away. 5
Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment nor sinners in the
congregation of the righteous, 6

for the Lord watches over the way of the

righteous, but the way of the wicked will perish.

SECOND READING Matthew 26:26-30
26 While they were eating, Jesus took a loaf of bread, and after blessing it
he broke it, gave it to the disciples, and said, “Take, eat; this is my
body.” 27 Then he took a cup, and after giving thanks he gave it to them,
saying, “Drink from it, all of you, 28 for this is my blood of the covenant,
which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins. 29 I tell you, I
will never again drink of this fruit of the vine until that day when I drink
it new with you in my Father’s kingdom.” 30 When they had sung the
hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives.
