FIRST READING
1 The heavens proclaim the glory of God.
The skies display God’s craftsmanship.
2 Day after day they continue to speak;
night after night they make God known.
3 They speak without a sound or word;
their voice is never heard.
4 Yet their message has gone throughout the earth,
and their words to all the world.
God has made a home in the heavens for the sun.
Psalm 19:1-4
Reader: Word of God. Word of life.
All: Thanks be to God.
SECOND READING Psalm 148:1-14
This will be read responsively. Men will read the light print, women the
bold.
1 Praise the LORD!
Praise the LORD from the heavens; praise God in the heights!
2 Praise God, all the angels; praise God, all the host!
3 Praise God, sun and moon; praise God, all you shining stars!
4 Praise God, you highest heavens and you waters above the heavens!
5 Let them praise the name of the LORD, for God commanded and they were created.
6 God established them forever and ever; God fixed their bounds, which cannot be passed.
7 Praise the LORD from the earth, you sea monsters and all deeps,
8 fire and hail, snow and frost, stormy wind fulfilling his command!
9 Mountains and all hills, fruit trees and all cedars!
10 Wild animals and all cattle, creeping things and flying birds!
11 Kings of the earth and all peoples, princes and all rulers of the earth!
12 Young men and women alike, old and young together!
13 Let them praise the name of the LORD,
for God’s name alone is exalted;
God’s glory is above earth and heaven.
14 God has raised up a horn for the people,
praise for all the Lord’s faithful,
for the people of Israel who are close to the Lord.
Praise the LORD
GOSPEL READING
Luke 19:35-40
35 Then they brought the colt to Jesus, and after throwing their
cloaks on it, they set Jesus on it. 36 As he rode along, people kept
spreading their cloaks on the road. 37 Now as he was approaching
the path down from the Mount of Olives, the whole multitude of
the disciples began to praise God joyfully with a loud voice for
all the deeds of power that they had seen, 38 saying,
“Blessed is the king
who comes in the name of the Lord!
Peace in heaven,
and glory in the highest heaven!”
39 Some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to him, “Teacher,
order your disciples to stop.” 40 He answered, “I tell you, if these
were silent, the stones would shout out.”
Reader: This is the Gospel of the Lord.
All: Praise to you, O Christ.
