[1] (1) This message was given to Amos, a shepherd from the town of Tekoa in Judah. He received this message in visions two years before the earthquake, when Uzziah was king of Judah and Jeroboam II, the son of Jehoash, was king of Israel. (2) This is what he saw and heard: “The LORD ‘s voice will roar from Zion and thunder from Jerusalem! The lush pastures of the shepherds will dry up; the grass on Mount Carmel will wither and die.”
[5] (14) Do what is good and run from evil so that you may live! Then the LORD God of Heaven’s Armies will be your helper, just as you have claimed. (15) Hate evil and love what is good; turn your courts into true halls of justice. Perhaps even yet the LORD God of Heaven’s Armies will have mercy on the remnant of his people.
(21) “I hate all your show and pretense- the hypocrisy of your religious festivals and solemn assemblies. (22) I will not accept your burnt offerings and grain offerings. I won’t even notice all your choice peace offerings. (23) Away with your noisy hymns of praise! I will not listen to the music of your harps. (24) Instead, I want to see a mighty flood of justice, an endless river of righteous living.

[1] (1) The words of Amos, who was among the shepherds of Tekoa, which he saw concerning Israel in the days of King Uzziah of Judah and in the days of King Jeroboam son of Joash of Israel, two years before the earthquake. (2) And he said: The Lord roars from Zion, and utters his voice from Jerusalem; the pastures of the shepherds wither, and the top of Carmel dries up.
[5] (14) Seek good and not evil, that you may live; and so the Lord, the God of hosts, will be with you, just as you have said. (15) Hate evil and love good, and establish justice in the gate; it may be that the Lord, the God of hosts, will be gracious to the remnant of Joseph.
(21) I hate, I despise your festivals, and I take no delight in your solemn assemblies. (22) Even though you offer me your burnt offerings and grain offerings, I will not accept them; and the offerings of well-being of your fatted animals I will not look upon. (23) Take away from me the noise of your songs; I will not listen to the melody of your harps. (24) But let justice roll down like waters, and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream.
